$13,000 was awarded last year! Five-person teams will compete to lose weight over a 12-week period. Wed. weigh-ins, from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Runners' High, 5338 E. Second St., Long Beach (Belmont Shore), 90803. Initial weigh-ins/registration is Wed., July 23, 2008, 5-7:30 p.m. at Runners' High. Last weigh-in is Wed., Oct. 15 at Runners' High. "SAY, 'CHEESE,' LONG BEACH!" (summer edition): 24-HOUR DIGITAL PHOTO CONTEST
contest is July 26-27, 2008, noon - noon; reception/exhibit is Sat., Aug. 2, noon - 4 p.m. WaMu Bank on 2nd St. A 24-hour digital photo contest for amateurs and professionals hosted by Justin Rudd and his nonprofit 501c3 Community Action Team (C.A.T.). Entry is free and all ages are welcome. The contest's mission is to capture, in a single day, images of Long Beach that celebrate this vast, vivid, vibrant city. We expect that this Long Beach family album of sorts will inspire, amuse, and on occasion, disturb. The public is welcome to view the top 200+ images at a free outdoor exhibit of the contest's images on Sat., Aug. 2 from noon to 4 p.m. on the sidewalk in front of Washington Mutual Bank, 5200 E. 2nd St. in Belmont Shore. Awards will be announced at 2 p.m. during the reception, and at least $1,000 will be awarded. Details and rules at www.JustinRudd.com/photocontest.html.
Justin's new Beach Body Sculpting classes
Certified group fitness instructor Justin Rudd's Beach Body Sculpting classes, July 23 - Oct. 15, 5:30-6:30 p.m. $10 per class or $65/advance for all 13 classes, or $60/advance for any eight classes. Bring a water bottle, a pair of your own light hand weights (10-lb. max., 3-8 lbs. per hand recommended, Justin will use 10 lbs.) and a large towel to the classes. Meet on the concrete boat launch ramp at 1 Granada Ave. in Belmont Shore. Free parking when you enter the gate at 1 Granada Ave., if the gate arm is up (usually is by 5:30 p.m.). We'll do presses, lunges, squats, situps, pushups, stretching, etc. See the Sample video and Web site.

LB shelter hours questions
The LB shelter is closed Sun. at 4 p.m. So if your animal is picked up Sun. after 4 p.m., does that mean you can't pick it up until Wed. at 10 a.m.? If it is, that's a very long time. Also, makes me wonder...if they count those 2.75 days as part of the short number of days that they hold an animal before euthanizing? - Joanne www.longbeach.gov/acs/default.asp
